Earlier in the school year, we learned about NC's 3 regions. Do you remember what the 3 regions are? If you said, Mountain, Piedmont, and Coastal Plains/Tidewater then you are correct? Your next project is to plan a summer "Staycation" (a vacation where you stick close to home). In this case, our vacation will be in our "home" state of NC. Blog 6 towns or cities that you would like to visit. 2 from each region. You may need to refer to other resources (maps, Internet sites, your notebook, your parents, magazines, etc...). Please refrain from reading your classmates' blogs for ideas. I really want the 6 places to be YOUR idea. After you post your 6 places then you may read and respond to your classmates' choices. Example: Mrs. H would like to visit: Coastal Plains/Tidewater- Hatteras and Wilmington Piedmont- Charlotte and Winston-Salem Mountain- Asheville and Linville This website was very helpful. http://www.visitnc.com/things-to-do Post your animal adaption poems to this post. Read and respond to your classmates' poems.
Explore the website All About Wolves and learn something new or make a connections between information on this website with the text from Julie of the Wolves. Share your knowledge or connection in the blog. Don't forget to revisit the blog to read and respond to a few of your classmates. As Shirley learned English, she encountered some expressions that would cause problems in understanding unless they were explained. For example, she heard the others say "teacher's pet". Of course, in her mind she envisioned a dog belonging to the teacher (literal meaning) which has nothing to do with what they really mean. It really means the teacher's favorite student. In English we have many such expressions, slang words or phrases that cannot be taken literally. Choose a phrase from the list, 1. Type the phrase in the bog. 2. Describe what the words say literally 3. Tell what it really means. Example: 1. Apple Shiner 2. Someone who shines or polishes an apple. 3. It really means a favorite student of the teacher. List: in a pickle, climb the walls, on a roll, beating around the bush, in a jam, break the ice, on the fence, music to my ears, chip off the old block, sight for sore eyes, steal a base (in baseball), raining cats and dogs, http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm Visit the Math Games link above. Scroll down to the Measurement Section. Practice measurement by playing 3 of the 11 games. Blog about the 3 games that you chose to play. 1. What games did you choose? 2. What did you like about each game? 3. What did you not like about each game? 4. What is something that you learned from each game? 5. What measuring skill do you need more practice with? |
